The kicked off with the Dynamo implementing their style of play. The team earned a couple of corners and shots early on. The team would then received two Yellow Cards - Ezequiel Ponce and Jack McGlynn in the 16th and 24th minute. David Martinez would also be booked for LAFC in the 31st minute. The Dynamo continued to attack but were unable to break down LAFC's defensive style. Blake Gillingham would be tested once in the First Half, but made the save in the 35th minute. The match would enter the half after two minutes of stoppage time and a couple more corners for the Dynamo.
The Dynamo would continue to showcase their play. Ponce would test Lloris in the 51st min with a shot, & it'd be saved. Jack McGlynn would give the Dynamo the lead in the 58th minute after cutting in and shooting near post to beat Hugo Lloris. LAFC would make four substitutions in the 69th minute. This would add pressure to the Dynamo and have them force some changes. Sebastian Kowalczyk was booked in the 75th minute and was replaced six minutes later by Ibrahim Aliyu. The Dynamo then made a couple of more subs, and after 7 minutes of stoppage time, the whistle blew for full time, giving coach Ben Olsen and his team a sense of relief.
The Men in Orange will now return to the West Coast and face the reigning MLS Cup Champions, the Los Angeles Galaxy.
